"It is for more than him- when he was Detlef, before...Before." She sighs, drinking deeply of her wine. "He told me he was possessed. I did not know he was Anders. I thought he was a spirit healer that had gotten in over his head. I gave my word that I would find a cure."
Pel nods solemnly. "Consider it done. But please don't get yourself killed. There's a lot of other things you're needed for, like keeping me from murdering a lot of idiots."
A chuckle. "You've made a lot of commitments. All right. It's my turn. Leliana is my, um, ultimate superior. Most superior officer. She comes to me, talks to me about my notes, and says one of my opinions is naive. But she has me here to give an analysis, an opinion to chuck in with all the others people give her. That's my job. She's to take it or leave it, not berate me for it."
"If Tevinter had that magic- it would depend upon who it was that had such a power. Sitting in the shadows and playing a long game only you are certain to see?" It is what any good deathless Orlesian would do.
"Leliana often does." Whether it is one they wish to hear- now. That is something else entirely. "The more that I have settled the more I miss having my own office. Now that we have built space for others alongside the keep I cannot help but wonder if we could not petition to assist in Skyhold's repairs directly. I need somewhere to keep my notes and take appointments.
"It is better to imagine and brace for the worst and be plesantly surprised than the opposite." Gliding along otherwise led to situations like the Spire, where all were caught unawares.
"You think I have not?" The request was, of course, intended for the Mage Council as a whole but she would have made use of her space in there just as much as she does the table tucked into a corner in the library. "There are not enough rooms yet repaired."
"They found one for Morrigan. Who came into the Inquisition after me and is human."
She doesn't want an office, and she's aware Morrigan is far more traveled and studied than she is, but frankly? The surface level just looks bad when their department is the elven arcane and she's allowed to be occasionally salty about it.
"The apostate with political ties to the Empress of Orlais." It is more than race, on occasion, it is standing. "I wonder what Vivienne's face looked like when she knew Morrigan was given space for an office?"
"Most rooms are either in dire need of disrepair or slated for renovation for the use of visiting diplomats." She cannot stand in the way of what would be best for the Inquisition as a whole- no matter how much she might want to. "Unfortunately it is the best way to have that authority recognized by those outside of the Inquisition."
"I know. Sometimes it feels like saving space for those who need it least. I know it's still our space. But I can't imagine being someone I could be around if I demanded aristocratic comforts everywhere I went."
"It is absurd!" Pel scrunches her nose, missing the point. "If you're someone's guest, you try not to put everyone out trying to please you. But if you're rich enough, you can do as you please and people will call it an honor. Even the Inquisition."
"Allow me to make the recommendation you never spend too much time in Val Royeaux." It would not end well. "It is politics and influence, assumed insults can ruin a reputation that is still fragile. So we must take steps not to cause insult. We are not precisely rolling in coin, otherwise the Hold would have been repaired and refurnished months ago."

It is what they are good for, thinking of the most sideways and sinister political movements.

She takes a longer drink of wine.
"Mythal'enaste, I'm glad to be Dalish."

Another drink.
"Get in line. Although you're human, they might give you an office if you ask. The rest of us use the library."

"Honestly, Morrigan might have just taken it. Might be the only way to get any kind of space round here.
"Morrigan's tried to make up for it by screening for elven assistants. I think she knows it looks bad, heading up a department about elven research."
